In this case the seller is clearly profiting from the copied books. Very much the wrong thing to do.

I am going to strike your situation next week, we are buying my Mum a kobo for her birthday. I have the ability to give her my purchased books as I have "liberated" them all and use calibre to add covers etc. But is it the right thing to do? The 100 free books will keep her going for a while while I ponder the ethics....

Is giving my mum purchased books any different than the seller trying to flog off this kobo with pirated books? Probably not...
