First check firmware version, then SD card format
There is a sticky at the top of this forum which relates to updating the firmware to the latest version. There is a way to find your firmware version from one of the top level menus (I don't have mine with me to check, but I believe that it is in the instructions). If you do need to update, be sure to back up any books that are loaded into the internal memory (not the SD card). Mine came with free books loaded internally. Make sure that if your SD card is over 4 gigs that it is a high capacity card. You may want to make sure that it is formatted as FAT 16, not FAT 32.
I have been using my JBL for about a month now and find it easy to use. Once books have been opened for the first time they usually open very quickly thereafter. Page turns are instantaneous and once it has been turned on for the first time (or after a reset), it turns on and off very quickly. I have read TXT, EPUB and simple PDF books without any difficulty. Read through some of the related posts in this forum for tricks and tips. Calibre is a very useful tool for managing your ebooks and ereader devices. Good luck.
