We went to a dog adoption event last weekend. Before leaving we printed out the adoption application form and filled it out. When we arrived at the event we found some pups that we might interested in but they were not at the event itself. I asked if we could interview with the folks that day, go and visit the pups at their foster home (the foster parents already had said Tuesday night was great), bring a check to the interview, and bring the puppy home with us Tuesday night.
The coordinator said no, we had to pick a puppy first, and asked if I was an Engineer. Some how being organized, following directions, and reading ahead what the process is marks one as an Engineer.
For the record, I am a reformed academic with a PhD in Political Science and not an Engineer.

"reformed academic" *snicker snort* as a telephone technician I end up in all sorts of different offices doing installations for all sorts of different people. I had a contract at IBM in Boulder for about 2 years doing their telecommunications installations, moves and repairs. IBM'ers used to joke that it stood for "I Been Moved", and they were notorious for moving people back and forth between Colorado and New York. it also held true for within the facility. invariably whenever I was installing for engineers and ask them where they wanted their phone in a TINY little office barely bigger than a cubicle, they would offer to draw a map. I learned to carry a red felt tip pen and tell them to just draw a red x on the wall where they wanted it
