Not directly, no -- you'd need to have your SD card in your computer for that. The books on the card appear along with the ones on the Sony's internal memory in the main listing, and collections, but have a small "SD" logo attached to the thumbnail. The SD card books do not appear in a separate place/section; they're integrated.

Never done the factory thing, sorry!

The touch screen is quite sensitive -- you don't actually need to "touch" the screen at all, but trigger the motion sensors; I use both touch screen and buttons, though more the touch screen feature for page turning.
