That's strange. I'm using the 3G k3. I know it only works when sorting by title or author. It does not work when sorting by collections - just type a letter and don't press anything and it should say in italics across the search bar "click here ..." and you hit the middle of the 5-way controller.

Thing is I had to try it with several letters as I don't have many books stored on the kindle now!
