I have successfully come back from a botched root once, and restored back to factory once, on a Nook that i ended taking back due to QC issues with the screen. my second device was super easy to root having kept the imaged sd and remembering the steps.

I also botched a root job on my first NC and re-applied the root and it worked. Then I realized yesterday (thanks to these forums) that I was one of the "lucky" ones that got a NC with the sound issues after it goes to sleep. I reset my nook back to "factory setting" and luckily they didn't look too closely when they took it back.
Here are some things that didn't go away when I reset my NC back to factory:
Superuser app
NookColor Tools
mail
GMail
marketplace
calculator
Keyboard stayed modified from the original NC keyboard
I think that's it. The salesperson noticed the keyboard and luckily still helped me out. I was wondering if anyone else has run into this and if they have how they fixed it.
Sorry if there is a better place for this post....it's my first time posting in these forums
