Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoyevsky (11 November 1821 – 9 February 1881) was a Russian writer and essayist, best known for his novels Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov.
A man of many passions, Dostoevsky revealed two of them in The Gambler--his lamentable love for Apollinaria Suslova and his obsession with gambling.
