Check with your credit card company. Most offer a free one year extended warranty and 90 days of accidental damage/theft with no deductible.

Meh, I've never had a piece of electronics break on me, so if it does break, it will most likely be once. Also, if the battery dies, just "break" the nook and get it replaced with the latest gen. I'm sure in Jan of 2014 there will be a newer model
Worth the piece of mind for the price of a dinner.
