Unfortunately I've met a lot of people who think the only good snake is a dead one. (I've never had one in my own yard -- it's pretty urban right around me.)

If I found a venomous snake in my back yard, I'd capture it and relocate it to a less populated area. I've had some experience with them, and their reputation for aggressiveness is overblown. Even the canebrake rattler I found tried to escape from me until I blocked her path (she was later released). And once I lifted a large rock under which I had seen a water moccasin slither. Under the rock I found it and one other water moccasin. I realized then I'd made a mistake, for I couldn't replace the heavy rock without possibly causing harm to them. Fortunately, they solved the problem by slithering into a nearby lake. According to every story I've ever heard from those who fear snakes, they should have attacked me right then and there.
