For what it's worth, I was first introduced to Dark Shadows while driving my mother and grandmother to the grocery store one day. My grandmother suddenly asked my mother, "Remember that little girl I told you about who'd been dead for 500 years?"

As my grandmother was very much into genealogy and tracing the family tree, the question didn't seem at all odd to me. My mother replied, "Yes."

"She came back to life today."

Even though I was accustomed to hearing my grandmother speak of soap characters as if they were real people, to the point of developing strong love for the heroes and hatred for the villains, this came out of nowhere and nearly floored me until I realized she was speaking of a TV show.
