The one I'm thinking of was set on a spaceship (mostly) headed for Nemesis (I think)--a new 10th planet. I seem to remember that for some reason the crew had to destroy the ship at the end, stranding themselves.

Any ideas?
Came out over 20 years ago with a story about a spacecraft going to a planet called Nemesis could suggest the the Isaac Asimov novel "Nemesis" (first published 1989). In this book Nemesis is another system with a red dwarf star, a gas giant planet with a possibly habitable moon, Erythro.

There was a mysterious plague that effects people's minds, but I can't think of any "nightflyers" in it ... although it's been a while since I read it. The Nemesis system is detected as on a collision course for the Solar System (collision as in disturbing the orbits). The spacecraft heading to it is actually like a space station, "Rotor", that decided to migrate from Earth. There is a 15yo girl on the station that plays a significant part of the story.

It doesn't sound exactly what you're looking for, but thought I'd mention it.
