In my experience it (intentionally) looks very little different to flirtation with courting intent, from either side. From my experience such flirtation rarely occurs between a straight man and a gay man, though I have had, rarely, a very few, close, straight, male friends who are as obviously, unselfconsciously, assured in their own sexuality as I am in mine that such flirty behaviour between us is done in a similar ironically amused way.

It is because it will only ever go part-way down the usual path - that true romance will never muddy the waters - that it happens. Who it happens with often become the best of friends, in my experience.

At this stage, at least in the current state of society I live in, and in my experience, it is predominantly gay men and straight women between which it occurs, perhaps because of limited "complications" occurring in that friendship. A gay man and a straight woman as BFF's is quite common.

Marc
From limited experience with a gay coworker, I'd have to agree. We flirt shamelessly with each other; and it means absolutely nothing except we're good friends. I'd pick him to go hang out with at the mall over any g/f I have, LOL.
