@JohnHaxx: OK. maybe this is more bloody obvious but:
Let's assume you want the Georgia font you find on your PC. So you copy them to some other place and rename them:
Georgia.ttf -> Serif_Regular.ttf
Georgia Bold.ttf -> Serif_Bold.ttf
Georgia Italic.ttf -> Serif_Italic.ttf
Georgia Bold Italic.ttf -> Serif_BoldItalic.ttf
Then you copy these files to your Kindle /linkfonts/fonts, thereby overwriting the original Serif fonts (you may consider making a copy of those first, in case you want to revert).
Then you reset and your books should be displayed in the new font. Be aware, though, that the majority of fonts which look good on your PC will not work very well on the Kindle.
Maybe this resolves it, maybe I'm completely missing the point. Lemme know...
