Man, there seem to be a lot of fantasy / sci-fi readers in this thread

I liked Lackey's Gryphon series (I think because I like Urtho and the Gryphons). Not a fan of Owl (I may re-read soon since I just read from Gryphon to Mage Winds).

I found I have trouble with the Andre Norton I've attempted - not as good as I remember.

I just managed to slog through the first Xanth book. It was readable, but it felt a little painful. I'm reading the second for kicks; it's worse. I seem to remember last time I tried this several years ago, I gave it up after the first two and Crewel Lye).

I really felt like I was reading fluff, though. Ick. But the budget is tight, so I'm trying to re-read a lot of my existing old books.
