Krypto posted a link to installing a standard samba server on your Nook. I'd say this is a safe app (based on opensource originals, but you have to trust the compiler). I do happen to have it on my Android phone (mostly as proof of concept -- I'm a linux sysadmin so I thought it kinda cool), but don't see the need on the Nook since I already own the Websharing app and WebDAV gives you similar functionality (you need to do the extra step of mapping a drive to the WebDAV connection, but once you do so it looks just like a drive to your PC, the same way a samba share would).

It's up to you, the samba server is free, the web-sharing apps are linked in the market making them easy to manage, upgrade, and de-install.
