The first few weeks are the worst... but once you get over the new-ness of the device and what it does or you learn what it does, you will get back to reading. I played with my Kindle for 2 weeks before I really got back into actual reading. Now I have finished 2 and on my 3rd very long book into it.
As for format, if it is AZW, I leave it as is, if I have others, I convert to mobi and transfer it over. I have over 1000 ebooks (folder shows almost 600MB worth) I have previously bought or acquired over the past years already on my PC so I just use calibre to convert to mobi and transfer it over as needed.
