I'm afraid I don't understand your logic, JemCrystal - because everyone says Bujold's other works are *better* than The Sharing Knife, you won't read them?

Well, if you won't read the Vorkosigan books (which I HIGHLY recommend, btw), then you should read the Chalion books. There's both fantasy and romance in all three of them - I'll bet you'll like them even better than The Sharing Knife.

I have to admit my problem with the Sharing Knife began in the first book, because almost the entire book is taken up with wedding preparations for two characters who I found relatively bland - while LMB had given such short shrift to Miles Vorkosigan and Ekaterine's wedding, two characters that I had so much more invested in. It rather tainted the entire series for me.

But that's just me.

Anyhoo, give Chalion a try.
