Oh, I wish you wouldn't let naysayers influence you into NOT reading the Vorkosigan books. At the very least read the first two, which is the courtship/romance between Miles's parents (with a lot of action thrown in!) I love the Sharing Knife series. I also love the Vorkosigan series, and there are so many books in it to enjoy! I just don't want you to miss out, because if you like the way she developed the characters in The Sharing Knife you'll like the other books, too!
