Question about repairing screen

My screen broke on my PB360. I was plugging it in since it had frozen (once again) and it slipped out of my hand. It landed case first and at first I thought it was okay but when I got it turned on again, I realized it was broke. I decided to get a 6 inch reader locally with touch screen so did replace it but was wondering if it is worth fixing a broken screen. I had thought of maybe doing this and passing on the reader to my 9 year old son at some point. I would need to upgrade the firemware I think as I was having issues with it freezing quite a bit and he would not like that. I had 15.1 I believe.

Thanks,

Jodi
