Maybe he was also a collector of old ammunition? The house is very young, 15 years old, so it could not be there since ...back then. Then again, when they make modern gardens they usually dig up some rubbish in the place and say it is a natural ground. YW. It's hard to say how it got there. I'm not into collecting, so I have no idea what value this round may have held; but I doubt it had any. The British used a variant of this round as their service cartridge until 1963, when they switched to the 9mm.
