Giving the government the ability to secretly subpoena a list of books I borrowed from my local library and bar the library from informing me greatly impacts my First Amendment freedoms.
Health insurance regulations have less impact on my freedom and actually help me enjoy freedom by leveling the playing field when it comes to buying health insurance privately. And the healthcare regulations like those in Massachusetts and now federally that require people to buy health insurance actually enhance my freedom on several levels, not least of which is that those of us who do privately buy health insurance will no longer have to bear alone the heavy costs incurred by the uninsured who run to the hospital emergency room for every paper cut they suffer.
