Hello all,
I wish that I could post some really new and exciting bit of information, this New Years eve, about the NookColor. Instead, I'll demonstrate just how boring I am by telling you about my improvised DIY NookColor case that I've been using for the last two weeks
For those of you who are incensed (as I am) by the idea of shoveling out another 60.00 to B&N or others for a Nook cover, this might be the beginning of a cheap, protective solution.
I found that a Nook Color fits very loosely in a three ring binder pencil case (such as this
http://www.amazon.com/BAZIC-3-Ring-P...853595&sr=8-10).
I found one at Walgreens for a $1.00 US.
I then went home and fashioned a card board sleeve by, not so carefully, pencil tracing my nook around a cardboard flap from a mailer box, I had laying around waiting for the recycle bin. I cut out the template and even flipped it over and lightly extaco knifed thin lines to create a "binder" sleeve accommodating the slim width of Nook.
Then I stapled on an old, worn but very smooth wash cloth (I do have a protective film "thing-a-majing" on my screen). I cut that down to size too. Having electric scissors for both steps of the cutting process was nice.
I shoved the insulated, cardboard, binder into the pencil case and bingo!...I had a $1.00 protective case that is thin enough to shove into a purse or briefcase. The whole project (not including time spent at Walgreens) was about 10 min.
I'm sure I could've gotten a lot fancier but with that amount of time I could've spent it on rooting my Nook, which I haven't done.
I'm holding out for this fancy but less expensive cover...

But it isn't available until Jan. 6th. Until then, this case has been working great. The Nook slips in and out easily and I feel it is protected from getting banged around by lipstick cases, keys and other pursely items. The pencil case even has a little pouch on the front to store SD cards and the charger! Heck, I might not even end up buying my preferred case. I might hold out until my birthday
WARNING - by making this pouch may void the warranty on the pencil case. If you are not prepared to throw away a hard earned buck then DO NOT perform this operation. Do not even let your pet monkey Gunther (or whoever he is) to make this case, even though he could.
Happy New Years to all who celebrate it!
