I ordered the Kindle 3 Wireless 2 days ago and it shows won't be shipped til Jan 4-10. Guess they are overselling too.

Now I am having second thoughts, but is seems like the readers are scarce to see or even get.

As you mentioned the font was better on the Kindle. I just noticed it was really super easy to navigate and read, so maybe I shouldn't second guess myself. I also have read some things at mobileread that some people have problems with the Kindle freezing (the sony 505 did that at the beginning) and a loose part in some of them.

The waiting is killing me.
It seemed all of the Sony's had a gloss more than the Kindle, so perhaps they were all older ones, since I don't know what the 600 or 300 look like I can't say.
If it was small and had a touch screen, it was the 350. The 600 and 650 have the larger 6'' screen, but are very similar and could easily be confused. The 300 and 350 are totally different, the former lacking a touch screen and having the large lower bezel with the circular "menu" navigation controls. Sounds like you were seeing the glossiness of the Sony's Pearl display, plus the font difference.

Once when I bought a set of a speakers, I found a set I really liked, but continued shopping all over town. I ended up in an audiophile store, and the guy was showing me some speakers in my price range, which he claimed were better than the ones I told him I liked. After I listened, I expressed some doubt because I couldn't side-by-side the sound quality. The guy paused for a minute, looked at me, and said "You know what I've discovered in this business? If you find something you really like, that's the one you should go with because everything else is just second guessing yourself."

You liked the Kindle, so stick it out for the next week, and I'm betting you're going to love it! Don't second guess your decision at this point; especially since none of us were there with you (even though we're here for you!)!

Worse case scenario: you hate the Kindle, or just decide you like the Sony better? Amazon has a 30 day return policy, no questions asked. But I'm betting you'll love the Kindle. Heck, I've owned the Sony Readers since the original PRS-500, and even I like the Kindle 3 enough to consider one!
