Regarding the Barnes and Noble update, I would also recommend trying that update from a different computer. In order to eliminate confusion, remove the SD card from the Nook. Then plug the Nook into the computer and copy that ZIP file directly onto the NookColor drive that appears, into the root of the device, not into any directory that appears in the list.
