I purchased two nook colors for my children for xmas. One of the nook color's connectivity is perfect. Works great anywhere in the house and picks up around 14 other wireless access points in the area. The 2nd nook color only works with wifi when I am standing right next to my wireless router. Even standing next to my wireless router the device still has a low to good connection. As soon as I walk back a few feet it loses the connection. I also cannot see any other available wireless access points in the area.
I reset the nook color back to its default settings and that did not help. I also updated the nook color to software version 1.01 (helps fix connectivity issues) and the wifi still did not work properly unless standing right next to the router. I was on hold with B&N for over 50 minutes and then on with tech support for over 40 minutes. The tech person kept telling me that I had too many wireless devices connected to my router and/or my wireless settings were wrong and I needed to contact my internet provider. I told them over and over that it was not my router settings and I tried using the nook color with all other wireless devices turned off in the house. I kept telling them, how could it be that its my wireless settings on my router when the other nook color connects anywhere in the house and with no problems at all. They even made me reset the nook color back to its default settings after I told them I already did that. I was not happy with tech support and had to argue with them over and over. They finally agreed to replace the nook color via rapid replacement with UPS. Now one of my daughters will be without her nook color for 2 to 7 days and she just got it for xmas yesterday. So disappointing. I also couldn't return it to the store today because I ordered online at B&N.
UPDATE: The replacement nookcolor arrived yesterday and all is good. Now I have to working nook colors with excellent wifi connectivity. The 2nd one I had, had a bad wireless radio and I suggest anyone with the same problem, get in contact with Barnes and Noble and have them replace it.
