I haven't read the entire thread so apologies for barging in, but this line caught my eye. WRT loss of electricity, when we were left without electricity in Bosnia during the war years, once we burned through anything made out of wood that wasn't essential, we started burning our books to keep warm and to cook whatever food we could find. In spite of having a rather large library, we soon ran out of those too.
