Just got a Kindle, and I am having a hard time nailing down an answer to the a questions.
I have oodles of e-books (thousands) on my hard drive, but they are in PDF format. I know the Kindle will do PDF, but I want to use the text-to-speech feature, which requires they be in Kindle format.
Now, in looking it up, some sites say that using Amazon's conversion feature, which involves e-mailing the PDF to
YOURNAME@Kindle.com, will charge. Others areas claim that the charge only applies if you use the 3G (not the Wi-Fi). The user guide that came on the Kindle also suggests that the conversion is free to Wi-Fi users.
The Kindle I have is the Wi-Fi only. If I am reading it correctly, there is no charge for me to convert using Amazon's e-mail service. The charge only applies if it transmits the converted files via 3G, which I do not have.
Bottom line, is it free for me to convert from PDF to Kindle through Amazon's conversion process?
I want to confirm this before I e-mail a bunch of files off to be converted, and end up with a huge bill on my credit card.
