Besides the risk of it being stolen, the only way I'll be able to keep it intact is to commute via expensive vans, "FX's" as they are called here, or take a taxi cab. Jeepneys (extended Jeeps with bench like seating) here are road hazards and buses are rolling coffins. You get tossed every which way when you ride one of them or compressed into such a small space that you won't be able to think or both! The same can be said for the metro rail transit, our answer to subways only they rise into the sky instead of being buried in the ground.

That makes sense. Most US buses, trains, and subways are fine for reading and people use Kindles there. I am sure that there are some places in the US where people are less likely to use expensive electronics but I would imagine that you wouldn't find too many Kindle owners in those area. I am guessing the same holds across most of Europe, Canada, and Australia. Those are the areas that I see the most posts from.
