Device: Kobo Aura and Kobo Mini, had a Nook, NOOKcolor, Nook STR.
I set up two nooks for friends. For one I made an account for her. I used her email and made my own password, then I just told her the password so she could then change it and add her credit card info. If you put your credit card in the account, you can just change it after or delete it right before giving it to him.

For my second friend I set up a dummy account and she then unregistered and then re-registered with her own account.

What a great gift to give to your dad!
