I have made a package for Sony PRS950 to support simplified Chinese in reading, directory listing, song listing, web surfing, you can download and setup in your device. In this web address you can get the file:

And I wrote a PDF file to show the status of the PRS950 after it been updated, you can read it before you decide to update:

The method to update is same as what you have tried before:
1.) Plug in PRS950 & extract the download above to a folder (ie: C:\temp)
2.) Start Menu-> RUN (you shud see a new window titled "RUN")
3.) in the RUN window, type CMD
4.) a command prompt should open
5.) go to the folder you extracted to (ie: cd C:\temp)
6.) type flash_reader.bat
7.) follow the on screen instructions
8.) once complete, unplug & soft reset the PRS 950

I wish this update will make you love your PRS950 more!
