Some of them already have their own stores, though.
Simon & Schuster sells e-books directly at 35% off list. They support Adobe, MS, and eReader. If they were going to give up Kindle sales, they might just as easily keep the DRM and sell on price. If they can sell to Amazon at wholesale, they can just as easily sell to the public at wholesale.
