I had a plastic bag for my Kobo for by the pool & beach - as well as water, sand could be an issue. It was very easy to read through. I didn't have a ziploc or baggie of the right size, so I got a cello bag and folded the top a couple of times, and put it into its case. Not waterproof by any means but resistant to splashes and sand.
