Some of the people that have read the Sony Classics have found editing errors in them. There are also complaints about the size of the type and the excessive use of white space around the outside of the center text area.
The free downloads available here at MobileRead (MR) are all hand edited and formatted. Many are from the proofed text at Project Gutenberg and Distributed Proofreaders. They are great source material. Many of the MR downloads have added covers, table of contents, and internal graphics.
Patricia, for example, has restored many texts that are censored or have segments left out of the common versions. Her Voltaire works are great. Harry has assembled many omnibuses that collect related books into a unified volume. His Sherlock Holmes Omnibus has been on my Reader since he first published it last year. He also has collected the works of Dickens, Haggard, and Appleton along with many more. I have collected and produced the full 49 volume
Harvard Classic series. SciFi, history, pulp fiction, whatever you want; there is something there for anyone.
