Bad analogy, and not close to your situation. In your knee analogy, you
know that you didn't play an extreme sport. With the Reader, you
don't know whether it was subjected to an accidental force (banged around in a bag, twisted a bit, bumping it with something, etc.).
I'm neutral of course, but I lean towards Harry's assessment of the situation. There's a big difference between a manufacturing defect and breakage of a relatively delicate device through some inadvertent force.
