2 metadata questions

1. when calibre downloads metadata for books, the whole app waits for it to finish and blocks any other user actions. can this be performed in the background? (maybe freeze the books involved so that no concurrent writing is done on the records - I assume that is why the import dialog is modal)

2. the social metadata tags are numerous; could it be possible that the user (me ) would define a set of tags that he/she wants to have, and when the social metadata tags are received, only the matching ones are added?
e.g. I have a few tags, by genre : mystery, fiction, romance. When I add a new book, I don't really need to have all the tags - "mystery, police, detective, kitchen, murder, grandmother...... etc", but just add the ones that are relevant to me.

thank you
