The purpose of Zoom lock is for retaining zoom level through page turning.
Before X50 series, every time you turned a page, you'd have to reset the zoom level. Now, with Zoom Lock, each time before you turn the page, you set Zoom Lock, and turn page, and your zoom level is retained. Then you can unlock to pan around the page.
Not the most clever implementation, but it functions.
Better would be to allow continuous panning through pages, then no need to zoom lock, but still provide a function to hide the zoom functions from blocking the page.
Do we have to do everything for Sony? They need a new design team.
