And there are lots of locations with large afluent popuations with neither.
It's like they both took a look at each other's sites and decided to try to kill each other by making their own stores unprofitable. They chose they newest sites based on how much they could damage the other rather than by market needs.

Basically, they're locked in a staring contest, daring the other to blink...
