what is wrong with spam? (I am talking about ground meat in a tin, not the email variety)
I know that after the WWII it was the only meat in Britain that wasn't regulated by food stamps and people grew tired of it.
Perhaps the kind of spam that was sold here (under name Luncheon Meat) when I was much younger was of better quality than your average SPAM, but I never could get enough of the stuff. Served cold with raw onion, warmed up, slightly fried in pan ... One of the best kind of canned meaty stuff you could get. And cans were quite popular here at the time.
