At Borders, I once saw a guy come up to the display, stating that he was "about to get a Kindle" and thought he could see one "live" first. The sales person explained that Kindles are only available online; you don't get to try them first. The fellow seemed discouraged by that, and none-too-thrilled by their non-library compatibility (which had come up in the conversation as well).
