would you mind to explain why an SD card is your only way to get him more books? Like Nook, you can download via wifi with Kindle. And with most ereaders, locally via USB.

I can't comment on your keyboard concern, I think is a personal choice and preference. In my opinion, Nook virtual keyboard is sluggish and slower.

Did you check Sony? It's eink as well. They have several models and it's an awesome hardware. But you will have to validate book's collection, it is not so good like B&N or Amazon.
