I also returned mine. I didn't tell customer service I was gonna do it, just did. Maybe they'll notice that and go "oh well, I guess he doesn't need help anymore" but I doubt it. They'll probably contact me telling me what they decided to do about it, especially if it involves being able to still use their cover.
I would only buy another one if they came out with a hinge-less version. I like the Amazon cover for its other qualities, so I would consider re-purchasing a version that used an alternate method.
Or I'll buy an Octovo or Oberon.
