Well, Amazon announced in October 2010 that it would begin allowing buyers to lend their ebooks. However, which ebooks will be permitted is up to the publisher or whoever owns the rights. Removing DRM for the purpose of "duplicating/lending" an electronic document may be illegal. I could understand removing DRM if you needed to change which devise the buyer is using, but removing it to give to someone else sounds like a bad idea.
