There is no 'ideal' answer, other than "do it how you want".
Author is how you want to see them, and author_sort is the order you want to see them in.
If you decide to keep authors in LN, FN order, then search the forum for "author_sort tweak". There are a lot of posts talking about how you set this up and some of the consequences.
