Call me crazy, but I find the prospect of one company controlling the DRM (and thus access) to every bookseller to be a bit scary. Hopefully B&N doesn't get aboard as well and sticks with their own.

B&N drm is adobe made...
One thing that might change with e-readers going mainstream. People that have no tech knowledge.
When faced with format problem, tech savvy people get rid of drm / convert, and shut up.
But the average user, will go fill a complain to support to get help. Or get caught in buying format not readable by their reader, and complain some more. That, hopefully, will lead to some response.
