Device: Kobo Aura and Kobo Mini, had a Nook, NOOKcolor, Nook STR.
Her husband probably doesn't want wifi in the house for health reasons. Or that would be my guess, I could be wrong. For the same reasons people are fighting to not have it in schools.

You can tether the Nook Color to your phone if you want to browse the internet. If I wanted a reader for the reasons you posted, I would choose the Nook Color. Especially with the recipe videos to come. That looks pretty cool.
