DeerSlayer: this may not be the best place to address a question to the Kobo team. You may have noticed there are quite a LOT of posts in the last few days and the chances of it being seen are much lower than usual.

The 1.8 upgrade is done via the desktop application. Apparently there is something like a 25% chance that your desktop app will get the notice of the new version each time, to avoid stressing the servers. Eventually you will get notified. I, impatient, went to the Kobo website (http://www.kobobooks.com/desktop) and got the desktop software update directly and installed it. When I connected my Kobo, the upgrade happened, with a confirmation dialog. I can't remember if I clicked Sync to get the dialog requesting permission to upgrade or if it just happened when it was plugged in.

For my ADE to work I reset the Kobo to factory defaults and reauthorize it, but I don't think everyone had to do that.

(If you have questions for Kobo, there are a few ways: PM one of their reps on MR, call the customer support line, go to the Customer Care website (http://kobo.zendesk.com/anonymous_requests/new), or use the support tab in Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/kobo#!/kobo?v=app_227698805184. Better than a generic post in MR)
