Correct, changing the words per line changes it back to default. So don't mess with that. But you can change the font size.
If you wanna mess with the screen saver you have to hack it. Then you can change the pictures and change how long it takes before the screen saver activates. Don't think it's a good idea to deactivate it completely though, but probably possible.
