@kearalu Good to hear that you were able to resolve your Kindle problem by removing it from the Amazon cover; there seem to be more and more people having problems with the non-lighted cover. The problem appears to be that one of the metal hooks on the non-lighted cover is touching a component on the Kindle motherboard/logic board and causing the reboot, freezing problem. It is nice to see that Amazon is beginning to admit that there is a problem with the cover; I am sure they will redesign the cover to fix this problem as they will be losing $$ if they offer a free upgrade to the lighted cover for everyone that experiences it.
From what I have read, there is no similar problem with the lighted cover. Folks that have the lighted cover have nothing but positive things to say about it, so I would say you should accept Amazon's offer of the upgrade.

And there are some other pictures in this review -

As stated by wvcherrybomb, the area closest to the light source will probably always be a bit brighter than the rest, but if you don't think you can deal with the way the light on the lighted cover illuminates the screen, there are a lot of other lights available. If you do a search here, you will find quite a few threads about the different add-on book lights available for the Kindle. Here, for example, is a thread about the Octovo Solis light:
