No, I'm not a regionist. As was mentioned by another poster, if there is an unfamiliar turn of phrase in a book, I might look up where an author is from, but I don't specifically buy books by authors from one particular region or another. The premise of the book is what drives my purchase.
If I'm setting meta tags on books, I might set one for the setting of the story, but I never set any for the nationality/region of the author.
If an author turns out to be from my home state, I'll think "cool" and then perhaps pay more attention to the locales mentioned to see if he/she got it correct, but I don't look for home-grown authors.
