Probably because most of us want a quick basic look with the original highlighted word still showing in its page... This way you get both options,a quick look that may require you to peer if slightly sight challenged and the full entry if you want to read more detail and enlarge... Remember, you cna't please all the people all of the time... if Sony had done it how you want then I'd be wanting it the way it is...

Still, I can't help but wonder WTF Sony engineers were thinking with the tiny text that cannot be enlarged in the initial dictionary view. As far as I'm concerned, they could make the initial word double-tap jump directly to the full dictionary view and skip that micro dictionary view altogether.
